Recycling clothing seems to be the thing to do lately. It has for a while now, I guess but I'm just slow at actually doing it! I found this tutorial HERE the other day, pinned it & finally got around to cleaning out my closet.. which meant an excess of old t-shirts! So why not make a scarf right? It was super easy, took like 15min. You can make them long, short or use different colored shirts for some variety:)Saturday, September 17, 2011

Your Theme Day 1
Can you believe it, I survived a whole day! It had to have been the huge response I woke up to as friends filled my Facebook wall with all of their support! I'm stoked that some have decided to join me! I feel like such a rookie, so bare with me. The people that have inspired me to do this are pretty awesome, so I have some big shoes to fill. Their stories are pretty amazing & I'm hoping they'll let me feature them... Who's first?!...
Before you begin you need to clear your body of all the things you think you love. Like sugar, white flour & processed foods. Start replacing them with whole foods like fruits, veggies, nuts, raw honey, whole grains. I found that almonds helped me fight off my sugar cravings. Start off slow so you don't throw your system for a loop. Then over a week and a half or so you'll be adding enough raw fruits and veggies to jump start your metabolism & which also leads into a easier transition to a 100 % raw diet.
And so it begins... These are my tips for DAY 1...#1 don't start off with kale & ginger. You be fighting it all morning. Although I did learn that adding lemon tones it down a bit. #2 Get a good night sleep. Your first day, you'll need all the energy you can get. #3 Plan ahead, know exactly what you are going to juice & give yourself some time. #4 Have a song of the day....
I've always been a music lover. There was a time when you could quiz me on any song and I would know the next line in the lyrics. So before I started my juicier this morning, I knew I need to have something nearby me that I could use through out the day, if I starting craving something... like peanut butter. (Why I craved peanut butter today I have no clue?) So, I chose music as my "save me" something. I actually decided that I would have a different song everyday I'd listen to dance the cravings out. I'm not a good dancer so you could imagine the laughing that begins once I turn on my theme song. Today it was this one....

You could only imagine how hard I had to play the air keyboard to get over the need for peanut butter;).... What's your theme song going to be?

Pardon my juice mustache
I grew up never being allowed to have sugar (to put it lightly). I distinctly remember sneaking into the house, tripping up the stairs, trying to get to the bathroom, to wash my green tongue before my Dad would see that I had just devowered a pack of Now N Later's at a neighbors house. My Dad was a health nut & I promised myself that I never going to be like that. So despite that fact that I was raised with an understanding of food & it's hazards, I didn't believe it.I woke up a few months ago wondering where in the world I had gone. I saw a picture of myself and I couldn't see past this girl that had gained a few pounds, sported a half smile and looked more tired than ever. I looked shy and not like the girl I used to know. The one who used to laugh till she cried in the most inapporiate times, the girl that got voted "Most fun to be with" in the school yearbook. Does anyone know this girl? Please don't tell me I'm being to hard on myself. I know I have 4 kids & that I just had a baby but that's not an excuse for me. Plus, I miss that girl.
So what do I do about it? ... Awhile back I started hearing people talk about "Green Smoothies" & I admit I was pretty anti because it was something my "Dad would want me to do." Sorry Dad. The more I read about people changing there lives, losing weight, curing diseases & changing their mental state through nutrition made me curious. But not definitely something I could do. So despite that fact that I wanted to, I brushed it aside. Besides, I rather eat angel food cake with strawberries covered in whipped cream to make me happy! But then thinking back to that picture I mentioned before, I knew I had to make some changes. I started stepping out of my bubble, taking to people, pushing myself, trying to show my true personality & I won! I literally won! A $1000 to be exact. Just by telling myself I could do it! (and proving I had personality in there somewhere;)... But that's another story.
My next step is to get my physical self back. But how am I supposed to do that when I can't even run to the corner with out passing out! First, I eliminated something that was a challenge for me & that was SUGAR. And yes Dad, you were right. Sugar is so much apart of our lives, it was literally eating me. I knew that's what had to go. I want my kids to see my example. And after 2 weeks of resisting it, 6 pounds were gone. Funny how that works. I knew if I could out run sugar when it surrounds me, I could take the next step and try out a raw diet. Raw what? No, I won't be eating dandelions! For years natural food was a joke in my book. Now I'm intrigued & guess what my Breville Juicer arrived today, which means TOMORROW, I begin 15 days of juicing raw fruits and vegetables. Like I said I won't be eating any kind of weeds from the front lawn. But everything will be raw, in it's natural form. I have to admit I could have hugged the UPS man if it wouldn't have been awkward when he showed up with it! I'm sorry if the next dew days are a little off topic for Simple Finds. But I need accountability to get this done. I took before pictures but I think I'll spare you. So if you don't mind, I'll be posting all about my Reboot! I challenge you to do something to better yourself this week!!! If you feel like joining me & getting a raw mustache lol the check out THIS site!!! Be sure to leave a comment & tell me all about what you're doing or juicing! I need all the help I can get! And if you actually ever get a juice mustache... I'd love to see a pic;) Oh and you can join me on Facebook HERE!

Maybe next year
Call me a jerk if you want... This summer was our anniversary, 12 years:) My husband is not one to buy me jewelery, which I'm ok with. I'm a pretty simple girl. But sometimes a girl just wants a cool ring or something. I can hint around all day and he still wouldn't get the hint. I'm sure most of you can relate. So this year he came home from work the day before and told me he found my present but he didn't think I'd like. The next day, he takes me to the jewelery store. I was thinking "Oh yes bring on the ring!"... I was so stoked!!! The lady pulled out a watch. It was a nice watch. No, seriously it was a VERY nice watch but I it looked nothing like me! I tried it on and the lady looks at my husband and says "she hates it" & grabbed the watch from me! Long story short, I didn't get a anniversary gift!!! I felt pretty horrible. So here's a watch that I love! What are the chances I get it?.... Probably better buy it myself;)

She's all you
I love having a girl, she's the sweetest little thing. But no matter how hard I try, she's a daddy's girl. Thankfully my music gene rubbed off on her! She loves everything about it. And so do I. Don't think I have any form of musical talent though because I have absolutely zero. Maybe she will though. I however make the neighborhood dogs bark when I sing (impressive I know.)
One thing I've been working on is a collection of songs just for her. All her favorites. The one's she smiles to or the ones she falls asleep to. Even some that make her dance. She's not even one but she has LOTS of favorites. Hopefully she can take them all with her when she heads off on her own one day... Will they even have cd's then? Maybe I need a back up plan.... I hope she likes them;)

Broken toe
I remember being in 4th grade and I begged my mom for these shoes that I just had to have! Her response was, "I'm not buying you those cheap shoes... they'll hurt your feet!" In the end I got the shoes (yes, I was that spoiled) The very next day I was playing the usual game of kickball at school. I kicked the ball and instantly my toes killed. Without all the details, I sprained my big toe! So if you have read my blog at all, you know that I'm a shoe hord! While I can't always buy my kids the most expensive shoes, I still try to get them some that comfortable and that won't break their toes on the playground. Plus UMI has a bunch of cuteness on sale!.... And they have offered a FREE PAIR OF SHOES to a SF reader! GO browse the site and enter below!

So many pictures
So this summer while in WA we took our kids to Krispy Kremes one morning & while we were watching the donuts being made, the sweetest lady came up to me and introduced herself! I was so impressed. Then she let me know all about her Creative Keepsake business. I always love to hear about fun businesses. I'm so behind on getting my pictures organized and I thought it would take me a jillion years so I've been putting it off... But since the Story Book Creator is 50% off right now, I decided to give it a shot! Just drop your images in and make fun books for gifts, invitations & individual pages! I think I'm going to have fun with this! So easy! Definitely should check out this sale before the end of the month! Thanks Gloria!

Cooking show

I have a son who LOVES to cook! Every once in awhile he'll ask if he can have his own cooking show. So I break out the video camera & help get out everything he needs. Then he creates a fruit salad usually & then I'm the camera man. Even though he's 8, I still get so nervous when he wants to use a knife. My husband says he can handle it. But me, I hand him a plastic knife. So you could imagine how excited when we received some products from Khun Rikon. The kinderkitchen line is awesome. Everything from Mouse Measuring cups to this awesome dog knife. Easy grip handle, cuts food but can't stab anything with it... which is a concern at my house;) I even found my new fav kitchen gadget too. This dual peeler is FANTASTIC. I never use vegetable peelers because they never work right. This one, I've had about 2 weeks and I can't stop using it. I make excuses to peel anything. Peaches, cucumbers, tomatoes... Not that I normally peel tomatoes, but I tried it and it works really well. Great site for all your kitchen gadget needs. I think Santa will be using this site to fill some stockings;)
