A tradition that my family has during the holidays is the yummy Christmas breakfast my mom makes us all while we're still in our PJ's. We always have these yummy gooey pastries that she makes only on Christmas morning so we look forward to them all year long. Another tradition is that my sister and I still hang our original handmade stocking (made by mom) even though we have a few newer ones. Last year was my first Christmas not waking up at my parent's house since I now live alone in an apartment, and it was strange. I'm thinking about spending the night there on Christmas Eve this year so I can keep the tradition of waking up at my parent's house on Christmas morning.

Our favorite family tradition is choosing a family to do the 12 days of Christmas to.
ReplyDeleteLoVE these stockings!
Every Christmas eve evening we drive through the neighborhood and look at the holiday decorations that are outside!
ReplyDeleteChristmas mornings can be hectic and crazy, so our family tries to make sure we enjoy it properly. There are five kids and only one kid opens a present at a time. That way the moment is more important and it isn't just a rush to get all the paper off the toys. The kids love it and it makes each of them feel special.

ReplyDeleteOur holiday tradition is on Christmas Eve morning, the kids each get a special ornament that reflect something special about them, or some occasion during the year. My mother did the same for my siblings and me. When we grew up, we had a nice starter set for our own trees. My children will have the same.

On Christmas Eve is an intimate gathering with just our children, their spouses or significant others and the grandchildren. They arrive about 4:00. The adults get their favorite beverage (many like the hot apple cider) then we gather in the living room. First the grandchildren open their gifts...one at a time so we can savor the event. Then its on to the adults exchanging...one at a time.
ReplyDeleteWe then eat. I've made everything ahead of time, kept it in warmers or on ice with everything being the types of food that can be left out all night for anyone to grab something later on if they want.
Then the adults head downstairs to the family room where the table is all set up, the fireplace is already burning and the 2nd Christmas tree is lit up. We play cards and have one heck of a good time for the rest of the evening while the children are playing with their new toys.
Christmas Day we do it all over again but we have the entire extended family over.

My grandmother started this tradition which I think is just wonderful. She began to give all of us ornaments each Christmas. This way by the time we moved out on our own, we at least had 18 ornaments (and some of these were truly beautiful--and of course each one of them were full of sentiment!!) Now,we have all continued the tradition with our own families and everyone has beautiful trees. My favorite thing to do is unwrap my ornament box and look at all of my "grandma" ornaments.
ReplyDeleteMy choice would be the Holly Jolly Advent Stocking.

Christmas eve is my time with everyone and I make a large feast, have everyone open their gifts and I play yankee swap. It's fun and everyone looks foward to this fun time on Xmas eve. I make a big grab bag ,with presents ranging from 1.00 to 20.00. I have everyone pick a number out of a hat, numbers going from 1 to 20 or how many people are playing. The person with #1 picks from all the gifts then #2 picks a gift, but with yankee swap,#2 can keep their gift or swap #1 gift for theirs. This goes on until everyone has a gift, then #1 gets to choose from all the gifts and swap . This is so much fun and some people don't want to give up their gift. Its fun when you have #17 and love what #5 has ,you swap their gift
